Meeting Report for 9/16/2009

September 16, 2009

Andreas Raab was just too valuable at Qwaq today and was unable to make it.  In attendance: Jecel Mattos de Assumpção Jr, Ken Causey, Bert Freudenberg, Craig Latta, Randal Schwartz, and Igor Stasenko.

We started the meeting with a discussion of the promotion and visibility of Squeak, particularly the recent activity surrounding the trunk and New Community Development Model work.  Related to that we are working on arranging another appearance for some of the Squeak Oversight Board members on the Industry Misinterpretations podcast by James Robertson, Michael Lucas-Smith, and David Buck.  The likely participants are Bert, Andreas, and Randal, but that is subject to change depending on availability and timing.

Also related to this we would like to find someone willing to periodically report on the status of trunk development, statistics, relevant changes, issues, etc.  The idea is to have something like a press release that others like the News team could use to write up articles and increase the impression that Squeak is actually going places.  Simple statistics can be found at the bottom of  http://source.squeak.org/trunk.html.  Also there are the commit messages that go to squeak-dev and appear on the #squeak and #squeak-in-depth IRC channels.  And always of course the discussion on the squeak-dev mailing list.  If you are interested in helping with this please let us know or start a discussion on the squeak-dev mailing list.

Next we revisited the licensing issue in the form of finalizing an email to send to Software Freedom Conservancy reporting on current status and soliciting feedback and guidance.  After hashing out some final wording regarding statistics the email was finally sent before the meeting was complete.  Perhaps by the next report we will have further news.

Our next meeting is scheduled for October 7th, 2009.

Meeting Report for 9/2/2009

September 2, 2009

Igor Stasenko was unable to make it today because he is traveling.  In attendance: Jecel Mattos de Assumpção Jr, Ken Causey, Bert Freudenberg, Craig Latta, Andreas Raab, and Randal Schwartz.  Additionally, at our request, Matthew Fulmer was kind enough to join us.

Effectively the one and only topic today was the relicensing and most specifically about what we need to do to join the Software Freedom Conservancy.  At issue was deciding what we could do immediately to kick start the discussion with SFC and make this more of an iterative process with regular input from SFC so that we are certain that we are doing the work that actually furthers our immediate goal of  joining the Conservancy.  Hopefully we will have some significant news on that within the next couple of weeks.

We will meet again on September 16th, 2009.
